Over 100 Burnley businesses and business leaders attended the latest Burnley Bondholders meeting at Peter Scott Printers on Wednesday 11th May.
The event, which ran from 7.30am-9am, took place in Peter Scott Printers’ £1m factory on Heasandford Industrial Estate. The Burnley printers, established in 1960, moved to their new home in April 2020 following a £200k investment in the facility – a relocation which was completed during one of their busiest periods with a surge in demand for items such as signposting and social distancing signs during the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
A complex move which involved moving 36 tonne printing presses and equipment, Peter Scott Printers engaged with experts AMRC North West on lean time management and streamlining production layout to refine operations and reduce lead times.
Commercial Director at AMRC North West, Melissa Conlon, was a guest speaker at the Burnley Bondholders meeting, which got underway with a welcome from CEO of Burnley Council, Mick Cartledge.
Following that introduction, Managing Director of Peter Scott Printers, Joanne Hindley, provided an overview of the work carried out at the printing facility including their relationship with the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), a non-profit organisation which promotes the responsible management of the world’s forests.
Owner of Peter Scott Printers and Managing Director of Scott Dawson Advertising, Murray Dawson, then gave an overview of the company’s history including more details on their fabulous facilities and journey, as well as the importance of #ShopLocal. That was followed by talks from AMRC’s Melissa and Alan Dilworth, Programme Manager at Made Smarter – a company leading the UK’s ambitious plans to grow manufacturing through digital technologies, innovation and skills.
Murray Dawson, Owner of Peter Scott Printers and MD of Scott Dawson Advertising, said: “We are extremely proud to have welcomed the Burnley Bondholders to our printing facility right here in the hear of #BrilliantBurnley.

Mick Cartledge, CEO of Burnley Council, commented: “We had a great Bondholder event at Peter Scott Printers, the turnout was fantastic as always, and there was some really good speakers from Made Smarter, the AMRC and from Peter Scott Printers. A massive thank you to everyone who attended and we really hope they all enjoyed it.”
Joanne Hindley, Managing Director of Peter Scott Printers, said: “There’s a lot of jobs that we undertake which are quite complex and a lot of other printers would turn them down because they don’t have the kit and the capability, as well as staff with the knowledge. We have staff here on the shop floor who have been here for 30-40 years and it’s that wealth of knowledge that means no printing job is impossible.”
Melissa Conlon, Commercial Director at AMRC North West, commented: “The event was absolutely amazing. Burnley has some exceptional businesses and it was great to see so many of them there. There are some real hidden gems just like Peter Scott Printers.”
Alan Dilworth, Programme Manager at Made Smarter, added: “It has been really interesting to see Peter Scott Printers and what they are doing, and their digital machines as well as their more traditional wet ink on paper machines. It has also been great to talk to an audience who are interested in seeing how they can get support to introduce these sorts of projects into their businesses.
“It’s a really nice factory, you can see that a lot of thought and care has gone into it with the way it has been laid out and that is undoubtably because of the impact of AMRC support and this is the kind of thing that Made Smarter is absolutely about, to try and help these types of businesses improve their production.”
Burnley Bondholders is a consortium of businesses in the town which is passionate about the benefits of being based in Burnley and where the town is heading.
